Week 1 (June 6 – June 10)
What do scientists and artists have in common? How do scientists use art? How do artists use science? Investigate the science behind pigments, paper and plaster. Channel you inner DaVinci to make marvelous masterpieces from outrageous experiments. Make your own paint, tie-dye a t-shirt and explore light, color and shadow in the optics lab. Prepare to use your creativity, get a little messy and do some amazing science! Don’t forget, you can’t be smart without art!
Week 2 (June 13 – 17)
Explore what makes the human body both weird and wonderful! Learn why we have boogers and blisters, build a model skeleton that moves, create fake wounds to scare your parents, dissect an eyeball and learn lots of weird – and gross – body facts!
Week 3 (June 20 – 24)
CSI: Curious Science Investigators
We’ll learn what it takes to be a forensic scientist as we dust for fingerprints, analyze hair samples, isolate DNA, decode secret message and use our senses to identify mystery objects. We’ll even stage a mock crime scene in our classroom – it’s up to your camper to use their newfound skills to crack the case!
Week 4 (June 27 – July 1)
Whether you’re a Creative Mode master builder or you prefer fighting mobs in Survival, Minecraft just got even more exciting! Use the 3D printer to make a sword, pick axe or shovel, build a detector to locate underground ores, make an LED cube and discover how math makes the Minecraft universe run. A piece of obsidian is yours to keep!
Week 5 (July 5 – July 8)
Slam Dunk Physics
Calling all athletes! Get ready for the summer Olympics and learn the science of sport! How do basketball players appear to defy gravity when they make a slam dunk? What’s the mathematical formula for the perfect pass? What’s the best way to swing a tennis racket? Wear your sneakers for this week of sports and physics!
Week 6 (July 11 – July 15)
Meet the Robots
Ozobots, DrawBots, PiBots and more bots! The LEGO Mindstorm EV3 will be the main focus of this week of designing, building and programming fun. Team up to solve tricky engineering challenges and test out color and touch sensors. We’ll also design circuits with littleBits and make a paper robot that lights up!
Week 7 (July 18 – 22)
Design and Destroy
Try your hand at design and architecture as you create your own awe-inspiring structures. Explore the science of shape and make tessellations like M.C. Escher. Plan and build model bridges, skyscrapers and more. Test your projects to see how much strain they can take before they crumble and discover the fatal flaws of structures throughout history.
Week 8 (July 25 – 29)
Fizz – Bubble – Flash
Find out why cabbage and old eggs smell bad and why cola makes a penny shine. Discover which combinations create explosions or slime and how we use this in everyday life. Part chemistry, part physics and all fun, you’ll gain a new appreciation for everyday household items.
Week 9 (August 1 – August 5)
The sky’s the limit as we investigate the science of motion! Test out Newton’s laws and try to defy gravity. Design contraptions that soar through the air, speed through water and zoom across land. Ready, set GO!
